Key Food Stores Co-Op Inc. is a cooperative of independently owned supermarkets in southern New York, plus one store in Stamford, Connecticut. (Until 2007, there were Key Food stores in New Jersey.) Key Food was founded in 1937 by Sam Mandel; it is headquartered on Staten Island. Under the direction of its Chairman Lawrence Mandel, and Chief Executive Dean Janeway, the enterprise also operates stores branded as Food Dynasty in the five boroughs, and Key Food Marketplace, which are larger stores located in suburban areas, and also stand-alone shopping centers in New York City.
